Celebrity Baby Names
Starting with Letter "M"

Artists are creative by nature and often give their children quite creative names! Some are traditional, some unique, and some are, well, just down right weird. It doesn't really matter at the end of the day for these kids, though, because for the most part they were dealt a pretty good hand in life considering the wealth and stature of their respective parent(s).

Check out some of the interesting names celebs have given their children. Click on a block or drag the slider to select the first initial of the celebrity's first name.

  • Lourdes Leon. Rocco and David Richie. Mercy Ciccone.
Lourdes Leon. Rocco and David Richie. Mercy Ciccone.
Madonna has a total of four children. Two are biological by two different fathers and two were adopted at separate times from the African country of Malawi. First born is daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon (b. October 14, 1996), whose father is Madonna’s former boyfriend, a Cuban actor and personal trainer named Carlos Leon. They were never married. Almost four years later Madonna hooked up with British director Guy Richie and together they had Rocco Ritchie (b. August 11, 2000). Later mom and dad married and then divorced. While still with Richie, though, Madonna adopted her first baby David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie in 2006. After their divorce, Madonna went back to Malawi and adopted a daughter she calls Mercy James. Of course all of her children’s names, like her own, are seeped in religious significance. Lourdes (who is nicknamed Lola) is in reference to Our Lady of Lourdes at the village of Lourdes, France where the Blessed Virgin Mother appeared before a fourteen year old girl in 1858 (today it is a pilgrimage destination for Catholics and a place of purported miraculous healings). Rocco is a name that means “rest” and was famously borne by a 14th century French saint. His mother was barren but after praying to the Virgin Mary for a child, she conceived Rocco (perhaps Rocco Richie’s 42 year old mother also made similar prayers?). David is probably the most important of all the kings of Israel and the one who defeated Goliath. Finally, Mercy is an obvious religious virtue name meaning “rewards”.
  • Monroe and Moroccan Cannon
    Monroe and Moroccan Cannon
Superstar couple Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcomed fraternal twins in April 2011. True to form for celebrities, they gave their children somewhat unusual names. Their daughter Monroe was named after Carey's idol Marilyn Monroe and Moroccan Scott was named after the style of decor in the room where Nick proposed to Mariah. Aw, how cute. They have nicknamed the children "Roc" and "Roe" (pretty clever, huh?). Congratulations to the cute couple!
  • Ella, Michael, Brendan and Grace Whalberg
Ella, Michael, Brendan and Grace Whalberg
Mark Whalberg has four children with model girlfriend turned wife Rhea Durham. They are named Ella Rae (b. 2003), Michael Robert (b. 2006), Brendan Joseph (b. 2008) and Grace Margaret (b. 2010). We guess the crotch-grabbing former underwear model is more old-fashioned than we would have guessed. He and Rhea picked some pretty traditional names.
  • Alexia, Isabella, Gia and Stella
    Alexia, Isabella, Gia and Stella
Matt Damon knows how to pick good names, or perhaps it’s his Argentine-born wife Luciana Bozán Barroso who finds the perfect monikers for the couple’s four girls. Well, technically, Alexia is Luciana’s daughter from a previous marriage (Damon is the girl’s stepfather). After meeting the pretty Latina bartender in Miami while on a film shoot, the two eventually married. They have three biological daughters of their own: Isabella (b. 2006), Gia Zavala (b. 2008) and finally along came Stella Zavala in 2010. All four names have a strong Latin flavor thanks to the “a” endings. Isabella is the Latinate form of Elizabeth, Gia is a diminutive of the Italian Giovanna (English equivalent would be Joanna or Joan which is the feminine form of John), and Stella means “star” in Latin. Matt Damon certainly has plenty of estrogen in his household, and he better go buy a shotgun and a shovel before these girls are teenagers!
  • Levi Alves, Vida Alves and TBA McConaughey
Levi Alves, Vida Alves and TBA McConaughey
The man with the most overexposed chest and overrated talent in America is now a family man. Once a hot Hollywood bachelor whose favorite girlfriend was named Mary Juana, McConaughey was taken off the market by little-known Brazilian model Camila Alves in 2007. The cutesy, outdoorsy and sporty couple have also high-tailed it to Austin, Texas to raise their family out of the Hollywood scene (despite the fact they continue to be a paparazzi favorite). The pair has two children with a third on the way. Levi Alves McConaughey was born in 2008 and baby sister Vida Alves McConaughey followed in 2010. Levi is a perfect name for the laid-back parents and Vida is the Spanish and Portuguese word for “life”, something they obviously try and live to the fullest. Looking forward to hearing name choice #3.
  • Noah Shannon Green
    Noah Shannon Green
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green quietly started dating in 2004 when he was 30 years old and she was just 18. The pair got engaged two years later, then broke the engagement in 2009, got re-engaged in 2010 and finally married that same year. So technically these two have been together for almost 10 years (by Hollywood standards that's, like, FOREVER). Megan and Brian joined their near-perfect DNA to produce a son on September 27, 2012. They named him Noah Shannon Green.
  • Prince, Paris and Blanket Jackson
    Prince, Paris and Blanket Jackson
The King of Pop (may he rest in peace) has a legacy beyond just his music and brilliant choreography - M.J. also left behind three children. They were clearly his pride and joy. His oldest was born in 1997 and was named after his Dad: Prince Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. (commonly known as Prince). His sister Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson followed a year later in 1998. Finally, Jackson had his third child - a son - via surrogacy in 2002. Also named Prince Michael Joseph Jackson III the family refers to the little cutie as "Blanket" (no, that's not his real name).
