Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 (Sue Townsend) - In spite of himself, Adrian Mole reveals his enormous wit and wisdom in this secret diary as he suffers through acne, bullying, and his parent's separation. A. Mole, the unforgettable lad whose self-absorption only gets funnier as his life becomes more desperate. Recommended for ages 13+
The Secret Diary of Adrian Cat (Stuart Macfarlane) - Adrian is playful, kind, and compassionate. He is also maddening, a poor judge of character, and incapable of seeing the world from any point of view other than his own. He is, in fact, a cat. This day-by-day account chronicles a year in which he joins a criminal gang, saves the life of a wounded fox, befriends a slightly insane pirate parrot and a baby robin, falls in and out of love with gorgeous but deceitful Snowball, and finally finds real happiness with the disheveled but wise stray Gypsy. Recommended for ages 10-14.

Saint Adrian of Nicomedia (3rd Century) - St. Adrian was a Herculean Guard during a time of Christian persecution in the Roman Empire. It is said that while supervising the torture of some Christians, he asked them what reward they expected to receive from their God upon their death. The Christians faithfully quoted Corinthians to demonstrate their devotion at their moment of demise. So stunned by the courage of these people, Adrian publically confessed his own faith only to be immediately imprisoned (without the benefit of baptism). His wife Natalia remained by his side in prison and at his death, asking him to pray for her from Heaven so convinced was she by his sudden conversion. Apparently, she didn’t want to take any chances either! Oddly enough, St. Adrian is the patron saint of soldiers and (of all things) butchers. His Feast Day is September 8.
