Etymology & Historical Origin - Brayan
Brayan is a new coinage which appears to be most popular among Spanish-speaking countries in Mexico and South America. The name’s etymology is unclear. The name is currently the 42nd most popular boy’s name in Mexico (2010). This fact alone seems to influence Brayan’s usage in the United States.
Popularity of the Name Brayan
Brayan first appeared on the U.S. male naming charts in 1996. Within 10 years, the name managed to reach levels of semi-moderation; however, in the past couple of years Brayan’s popularity has been waning. As mentioned above, this name seems to be favored among Hispanic/Latino Americans (although we’re not sure why). We wonder if it’s a Spanish version of the masculine Irish name Brian? In any case, Brayan is a modern trend (such as Brayden and Braylen). It’s hip and it’s cool, but it doesn’t carry the same weight as other Spanish classics (Xavier, Diego, Carlos, etc.). Brayan is contemporary and different.
