Etymology & Historical Origin - Nylah
Nyla and Nylah are names that appear to be most common among African-Americans in the United States. Our assumption is that Nylah (like Nyla) is an Americanized spelling variation of the Arabic female name Nā’ila (from the male Nā’il) meaning “winner, attainment of desires”. Given the appealing etymology of this name, it’s no wonder that people outside the Arabic world have since embraced it.
Popularity of the Name Nylah
The spelling of Nylah did not rear her pretty face on the charts until 2008, so this is a very new modern American invention. She is obviously following Nyla onto the charts with the added fanciful “h” on the end. The name is currently showing only upwards momentum on the charts but still at levels of low usage. It remains uncertain where the name might go from here. It’s a pretty sounding name, but ultra-modern and perhaps a fleeting fad.
