Travis Younger (A Raisin in the Sun) Travis is the youngest, at ten, in the African-American family depicted in Lorraine Hansberry’s 1959 play, A Raisin in the Sun. He is representative of the future of hope that we pray for this family, who are victims of racial economics. He is a likeable innocent, loved and sheltered by the rest of the family to the best of their ability. It is his very innocence which saves the dignity of the family and ensures its passage into a brighter future when his father, unable to shame himself in Travis’ eyes, declines to take money for not moving into a white neighborhood.
